Police found a woman dead in Portland’s Chapman Square Sunday morning. Officers at the scene said it was stabbing.
Police responded to a welfare check at 7:17 a.m. for a woman who was “down” in the park. She was dead when they arrived, Portland police said in a statement Sunday.
The Portland Police Homicide Unit is investigating. Southwest Main Street was closed from Southwest 3rd Avenue to Southwest 4th Avenue until around 10:45 a.m.
Police did not identify the woman.
If ruled a homicide, this would be the 78th in the city this year. Portland had recorded 74 homicides at this point last year, when it experienced a high of 92.
