Sacramento detective hits, kills 2 in crash on Interstate 5


A Sacramento police detective was driving a vehicle that hit and killed two people on Interstate 5 Tuesday morning, according to authorities. The crash happened on southbound I-5 near Sutterville Road around 6 a.m. in Sacramento.CHP said the detective was on duty in an unmarked Ford Fusion that hit the two others as a result of an “unknown reason.” Officials said a pickup truck had pulled over to the side of the road and possibly ran out of gas, when another vehicle pulled over to help.As two people were working on putting gas inside the vehicle, another vehicle crossed the solid white line and hit them both, officials said.One of them died at the scene. The other died at the hospital, CHP said.The Sacramento County Coroner’s office identified the two as 33-year-old Juan Carlos Enriquez Rodriguez of Sacramento and 32-year-old Lionel Enriquez Rodriguez of Simi Valley.The detective involved was not injured in the crash, police said.”We understand that there are many questions surrounding this incident,” Sacramento police said in a statement. “While we await those answers, our thoughts are with the families of the deceased individuals from this tragic event.
