New Orleans police investigate after 8-year-old shot, killed in Hoffman Triangle

Oh that’s good. Put your phones on vibrate please. Thank you. Good afternoon everyone. We already good to go. Alright. Alright. Good afternoon everyone. Um I have with me today, our commissioner of criminal justice coordination from the mayor’s office, Tanisha stevens. Uh Chief Deputy Superintendent of Field operations chris. Goodly. As well as our captain over the sixth district Captain Preston backs were here today as *** result of an investigation involving the death of an eight year old kid. Um very sadly, very untimely given the holiday season that we’re in right now, very limited information at this time. Um what we can say and what we do know is that approximately 11:05 a.m. Six District officers responded to *** call of *** child being shot at this location in the 3200 block of second street upon our arrival. Of course we did locate this child who was transported to the hospital and later unfortunately expired. This is an ongoing and very active investigation. What I can say is we did not receive any calls of any gunfire being shot in this block or in this area around the time of this investigation. At the time of this incident, we do have some individuals who are within the residents detained right now to interview them. Uh This is, it’s going to be an exhaustive and long process. We’re asking that if anyone has any information to please contact us, contact homicide at 6585300. We also have our child abuse unit on seeing just to dot all the I’s and cross the tees. We do not know if this is self inflicted. We do not know if this was accidental. We do not know if this was intentional. We really do not have much right now. So we’re just asking the community if they have any information that can point us in the right direction and lead us to some sort of closure and identifying what actually occurred on this morning. We’ll be very grateful with that. I’ll try to answer *** couple of questions. But again, this is just very beginning stages of this investigation. So I really don’t have many answers but I’ll try. That’s still *** part of the process right now where they’re actively processing that scene right now, as you can see our investigators as well as our crime lab is up there. Now, to my knowledge at this point, I do not know of any weapons being located. Chief Originally reports came out of the bullet with *** stray bullet coming through the outside wall and clear. So that’s that’s that is the comments that we have received. That is something that the investigators are looking at. But there are *** lot of unanswered questions that we have to really go through before. We can definitively say whether or not that is what occurred or if something else occurred appears to be *** gunshot wound to the abdomen. Yes, it is none right now. Again any information that the community can give to us just help us and point us in the right direction. We would be we would be very appreciative of it, but it’s this is the very beginning of everything. I won’t give any specifics with regards to that. Just now. This is again an active investigation, but we need our community’s help. This family is gonna need the community’s help. This community needs our help right now and again, just suing time given the holiday season. But that’s all I can answer right now, as we get more, I will share as much information with you as possible. So, we have *** couple of people again detained and being questioned right now. I believe the mother is one of the individuals that is being questioned. Thank you.
