Man kills fiancee’s father, shoots her mother, sister in Quincy after fight over living arrangements


A man shot and killed his fiancee’s father and injured two women before turning the gun on himself in a shooting early Wednesday in Fall River, Massachusetts, officials said.Police received a 911 call from the shooter’s fiancee saying that he had just shot two members of her family and then himself at their home at 511 Bank St., Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said. The shooter, 25-year-old Christopher Jean Baptiste, was taken to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.The fiancee’s father, 69-year-old Hubert Labasquin, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The fiancee’s mother, a 59-year-old woman, and 25-year-old sister, were taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital. The two women are expected to survive, officials said. Officials allege the fiancee’s family had been living with the couple at Baptiste’s Bank Street residence for the past several months while they apparently looked for another place to live. Jean Baptiste told his fiancee Tuesday night that he was unhappy with her family continuing to reside with them, officials said. Hours later, while holding a firearm, Jean Baptiste apparently told his fiancee that her family had to leave the house immediately. Labasquin apparently engaged in a physical struggle with Jean Baptiste, at which point Labasquin was shot.While the fiancee was calling 911, Jean Baptiste apparently shot her mother and her sister before shooting himself.The incident remains under investigation. Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
