GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Greenville Police are sharing new details on Friday’s shooting that sent two men to the hospital.
Police say Theodore Dunn Junior, 21, and Irashamire Perkins, 22, were shot near American Eagle in the Greenville Mall, and were taken to ECU Health Medical Center.
Officials say Perkins is currently receiving treatment for a gunshot wound and Dunn’s injuries were considered non-life threatening.
WITN is told that one of the men told police that the shooting occurred after he got into a fight with someone whom he had previous issues with.
Detectives are continuing to conduct interviews related to the shooting and are following up on strong leads.
Greenville Police say that an officer hired by “Belk” for Black Friday security heard the shots and was able to respond immediately, preventing further injuries.
Police Chief Ted Sauls shared that GPD plans to meet with mall management to discuss security recommendations for the mall moving forward.
WITN is told that officers have already started their annual holiday patrols of stores and to expect an increased police presence when shoppers are out an about.
Greenville Police added that they are “grateful there were no further injuries and want to assure the Greenville community” that they “are working around the clock to identify everyone involved.”
The mall was closed and forced shoppers to evacuate the area according to Officer Scott Venable with Greenville Police but has since reopened for normal business hours.
Police are working to obtain security camera footage to use in their investigation.
