CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP)- For the second time in less than a week, Chicopee Police have reported a serious accident where a pedestrian was hit.
Chicopee Police Officer Travis Odiorne told 22News that the victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center for serious injuries. Police were called to the area of Chicopee Street around 4:45 pm Wednesday night for the accident, which is now being investigated by the Accident Reconstruction Team.
On Monday night, one person was struck and killed also on Chicopee Street. The victim, 68-year-old William Matteson of Chicopee, was struck around the 550 block at 5:30 pm. Police later arrested and charged 42-year-old Benjamin Goraj, also of Chicopee, with motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence 3rd offense.
Chicopee Street was closed for two hours following the accident but is now open.
