An Upstate man was killed while working at a recycling center Wednesday in Spartanburg County, according to Coroner Rusty Clevenger with Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.It happened just before 3:30 p.m. at the Valley Falls Recycling Collection Center on Valley Falls Road, Clevenger said.According to Clevenger, Michael Harrison Cooper, 65, of Spartanburg died after being trapped between a large trash container and a cement wall. Cooper is a Spartanburg County employee, Clevenger said.According to Clevenger, OSHA has been notified.The county released a statement Wednesday night about the passing of Cooper.”We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our County employees, Michael Cooper. Michael died after a tragic accident at the Valley Falls Recycling Collection Center Wednesday afternoon. Michael Cooper was a valued member of our Public Works Department. According to his coworkers, he was a good-natured, hardworking guy who kept a constant positive attitude. We ask that you please keep Michael’s family, friends and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to his loved ones,” said Scottie Kay Blackwell, communications manager with Spartanburg County.Boiling Springs Fire Department posted on Facebook that the recycling center will be closed through the weekend.
