New Orleans police report 5 people injured in Bourbon Street shooting
THESE STORIES AND MUCH MORE COMING UP ON WDSU NEWS THIS MORNING. BUT FIRST, EARLY ON THIS SUNDAY MORNING, WE ARE FOLLOWING SOME BREAKING NEWS IN NEW ORLEANS. WE’RE TOLD THAT FIVE PEOPLE WERE SHOT EARLY THIS MORNING IN THE FRENCH QUARTER JUST BEFORE 2 A.M. SO JUST OVER 4 HOURS AGO. POLICE SAY TWO WOMEN AND THREE MEN WERE SHOT IN THE 200 BLOCK OF BOURBON STREET. THIS IS VIDEO FROM THE SCENE. WE’RE TOLD THEIR INJURIES ARE NON-LIFE THREATENING. WE DO HAVE TWO INDIVIDUALS DETAINED, BOTH OF WHICH WERE IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM. WE’RE STILL TRYING TO ESTABLISH THEIR AGAINST THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION AND THIS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. AND WE WILL UPDATE YOU AS WE LEARN MORE DETAILS. BUT FIVE PEOPLE SHOT EARLIER THIS MORNING IN THE 200 BLOCK OF BOURBON STREET. NOW, THIS COMES AFTER FIVE OTHER PEOPLE WERE INJURED IN FOUR SEPARATE SHOOTINGS ACROSS THE CRESCENT CITY SATURDAY NIGHT AS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FLOODED THE CITY FOR THE BIG WEEKEND IN THE BAYOU CLASSIC. WE HAVE TAKEN AS MANY AS 20 OR MORE GUNS OFF THE STREETS OF NEW ORLEANS JUST LAST NIGHT. AND COMBINED INTO THIS NIGHT TO THIS IS IT. THIS IS A VERY PRODUCTIVE THING THAT WE WERE DOING WITH REGARDS TO TRYING TO BE PROACTIVE IN KEEPING OUR CITY SAFE. Five people were shot in the French Quarter overnight, and two others have been detained for questioning.Police say two women and three men were shot in the 200 block of Bourbon Street shortly before 2:00 am.Authorities say the injuries are not-life-threatening.Police also seized weapons from the two people detained.NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says the 8th District took about 20 guns off the streets just Saturday night.
