Authorities have released the names of two men fatally shot Thursday night at an east Birmingham gas station.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified one of the victims as Timmeric Leshawn Bryant. He was 22.
The second victim was identified later Friday as Tobias Estrada McKinstry. He was 38.
The gunfire erupted just before 8:30 p.m. at the Shell gas station in the 8300 block of First Avenue North. Birmingham police received a ShotSpotter report of multiple shots fired at the gas station, said Sgt. Monica Law.
East Precinct officers arrived at the scene and found two men who had sustained gunshot wounds.
McKinstry was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:45 p.m.
Bryant was taken by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m.
The suspected shooter remained on the scene and notified police. That person was detained for questioning.
“We do believe there are others involved in this incident,” Law said. “We do believe there was someone else involved in the altercation, so we don’t consider this to be the only person.”
The deadly double shooting marks Birmingham’s 135th and 136th homicides of 2021. Of those, eight have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 183 homicides, including the 136 in Birmingham.
Anyone with information on the double homicide is asked to call investigators at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
